LONGING BETWEEN ECSTASY AND ABYSS
The 1920s were a decade of contrasts – energy and melancholy, glamour and nostalgia, experimentation and longing. Cafés, salons, and dance halls pulsed with creative freedom, while music reflected both the yearning for love and pleasure and the existential anxieties of the postwar world. Tango and popular melodies combined passion with drama, while European composers explored new harmonic and formal expressions.
In the program of “Longing Between Ecstasy and Abyss”, works come to life that reflect this rich emotional spectrum – from the passionate rhythms of Ángel Villoldo – “El Choclo”, Carlos Gardel – “El día que me quieras”, Astor Piazzolla – “Libertango”, and Jacob Gade – “Jalousie”, to the virtuosic compositions of Kurt Weill, Ernest Bloch, Hanns Eisler, Maurice Ravel, and Nikolai Kapustin. All are presented in arrangements for cello and piano by the beloved duo Runge & Ammon, returning to Sofia to ignite the passions of the audience.
The concert is a musical journey between ecstasy and abyss – through Buenos Aires, Paris, and Berlin. The cello and piano speak as voices of passion, longing, sorrow, and joy, each chord telling a story of human emotion and the spirit of the era.
This is not just music, but an experience – a chance to immerse yourself in the magic of the 1920s, where passion and art walk hand in hand, and to enjoy a performance by Allegra’s beloved artists, Runge & Ammon.
