With his distinctive warm tone and sensitive interpretations, Lech Antonio Uszynski has established himself as one of the leading violists of his generation. He is Professor of Viola at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, serves as a tutor for the European Chamber Music Academy (ECMA), and is regularly invited as a guest professor for masterclasses at international festivals and institutions.

As a soloist and chamber musician, he has appeared in major concert halls including the Berlin Philharmonie, Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Konzerthaus Berlin, Tonhalle Zürich, Konzerthaus Vienna, Wigmore Hall London, and Suntory Hall Tokyo. He is a regular guest at international festivals and maintains an active concert career as both a soloist and chamber musician.

Recent solo engagements include performances with the NFM Wrocław Philharmonic under the baton of Krzysztof Urbański, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, and the Southwest German Chamber Orchestra Pforzheim, where he performed Pēteris Vasks’ Viola Concerto. Further highlights include his appearance at the Interlaken Classics Festival, presenting Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto in a version for viola and orchestra.

Lech Antonio Uszynski has been the violist of the Stradivari Quartet since 2010. With this ensemble, he has toured extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and America and has released several critically acclaimed recordings for RCA Red Seal (Sony Classical) and Naxos. Alongside his work with the Stradivari Quartet, he is also a member of the string trio Trio Candor, with which he performs regularly.

In addition to his work as a chamber musician and soloist, he has been invited in recent years as guest principal viola by the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester, the Gstaad Festival Orchestra, and numerous other ensembles. In 2022, he held an ad interim position as co-principal viola at the Sinfonieorchester Basel.

In 2019, his solo album Progetto Gibson was released by RCA Red Seal (Sony Classical). Further recordings include works by Steve Reich for Warner Classics as well as a range of chamber music recordings. In 2021, he received wide critical acclaim for his live recording of Bach’s Toccata and Fugue in a version for solo viola, published on You Tube.

Born in 1986 into a family of Polish musicians in Padova, Italy, Lech Antonio Uszynski grew up in Switzerland, where he studied with Ana Chumachenco, Zakhar Bron, and Michel Rouilly at the Zurich University of the Arts.

He currently performs on a rare viola by the maker Hendrick Willems, built in 1690.
