Barna Károly is a Hungarian cellist and has been a member of the Bavarian State Opera since the 2024/2025 season. He is studying at the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich with Wen-Sinn Yang. His education previously took him to the mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, the New England Conservatory in Boston, and to teachers such as Lluís Claret, Peter Somodari, and István Várdai.
He is a prizewinner of several international competitions, including the David Popper International Cello Competition, the Jan Vychytil Cello Competition in Prague, and the International Antonio Janigro Cello Competition in Zagreb.
Barna Károly is also a scholarship holder of the Angelika Prokopp Summer Academy of the Vienna Philharmonic, the Villars Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic, the Allegra Festival & Academy in Ruse and the Piatigorsky Foundation. Masterclasses with renowned artists such as Franz Bartolomey, Enrico Bronzi, Alban Gerhardt, Gary Hoffman, Kian Soltani, Peter Stumpf, Camille Thomas, among others, have also played a significant role in shaping his musical development.
