Michael Salm

Michael Salm, who studied in his native Berlin und at the New York Manhattan School of Music, has been serving as Assistant Principal and Principal of the Philharmonia Zurich, the Zurich Opera House Orchestra, since 1998. From 2013 to 2014 he joined the Staatskapelle Berlin in the same position. In addition, he has been a member of the Bayreuth Festival Orchestra since 2003, recently also as principal. Having served as a principal of the Gstaad Festival Orchestra for many years, he also performsin the Lucerne Festival Orchestra.

From 2005 to 2006 Michael Salm was Concertmaster of the Korean Symphony Orchestra in Seoul, South Korea.
Michael Salm appeared as soloist with the Zurich Opera House Orchestra, the German Chamber Orchestra on tour in China, the New Philharmonic of New Jersey and in New York in Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall. In Korea he could be heard as a soloist with the Korean Symphony Orchestra, the Ulsan Philharmonic Orchestra and the International String Festival Daejon, amongst others, and passed on his experience teaching numerous master classes.

Michael Salm also performed with the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra Mozart and as Concertmaster of various chamber orchestras in numerous European countries as well as in Israel, China, Japan, Canada and the USA. As a Guest Principal he performed with renowned orchestras such as the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, the NDR Symphony Orchestra Hamburg, the Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra, the Hamburg Philharmonic Orchestra, the Frankfurt Opera House Orchestra, the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Camerata Salzburgand the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra. His guest appearances as Concertmaster include the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte Carlo.
